Shanghai, China, Day Six & Seven
Day 6 started with an OOOOH and an EEEK as we overslept and only woke up at 8.13am and had to meet everyone at 9am, our bed was so comfy I could have slept all day. Speedily washed and dressed we met up with the others in reception with not a moment to spare. While I doubt I’m ever going to be a tour person I’m beginning to look forward to seeing their faces and the conversations we have as we go about our day which is adding another layer to this experience.
It was beautiful and sunny as we caught the bus to our first stop of the day was the Shanghai Museum which is chock full of jade, pottery, paintings, statures and carvings but not so huge as to feel daunting. We finished wandering around at about 11.30am and walked for 15 minutes to Yunnan Garden and an area where the government has built traditional style buildings that are filled with shops and restaurants. It’s very cutesie and very crowded but lovely to walk around and Ma picked up some nice little trinkets.
After a HUGE dumpling lunch where our lack of Chinese got the better of us and we massively over ordered ☺️ we split from the others who were going over to Pudong to go up to one of the observation decks in the financial district. After moseying around for a while longer we returned to the hotel and enjoyed a bit of a rest before our Untour Street Eats Food Tour.

Day seven started with a sigh and rolling over and sleeping some more, bliss! and much later packing and checking out just before noon. After a pit stop at a mall to sate Ma’s shopping addiction and a quick bite to eat we began wandering the tree lined streets of our neighbourhood bordering the French concession.
We meandered along avenues with wonderful grand houses and explored artisan stores nestled along narrow lanes with traditional shikumen houses until it was time to return to the hotel and make our way to the train station for our overnight journey to Xian.
The process of getting to the station and into our train carriages was much smoother now we’ve done it before and we’re all now happily chatting to each other in our cabins Xx
