Two months today!

We’ve been travelling for two months today! It actually feels like we have been travelling much longer, which I guess is a good thing. Everyone’s dreams are different, perhaps to many leaving the security of everything and everyone you know is more of a nightmare but waking up everyday on this trip, that I had once thought was a pipe dream, is the most wonderful thing for me. Even when it became a possibility and we began planning, a part of me still didn’t think it would ever become a reality and I think it has taken time for us to realise we are here, WE ARE SO HERE! relaxing in Kuala Lumpur, planning the next year, before we collect a car on the 16th and spend 4 weeks driving around this amazing country!

We’ve had many new experiences already and we are only a fraction of the way through our planned adventure.  We’ve visited 2 countries, tried countless new and wonderful foods, taken 60 showers, 6 flights, eaten approximately 2 kilos of rice, had 1 visitor and 4 cheeseburgers, swum in 5 different pools, slept in 8 different beds, checked out within hours of checking in once, had 1 bottle of prosecco, used 4 bottles of sun block, had 2 awful taxi drivers and countless lovely ones and got 3 tattoos between us, lost one wedding ring and had one damn fine red velvet cake.  We have spent £5,243.66, which is a bit of a problem if we want to stay travelling longer than the New Year.  However £1,000 of that was saved from Christmas and Birthday money and went on tattoos and another few hundred on eyeglasses, after someone who shall remain nameless sat on his.  We are getting our budget under control *she said convincingly* and stopping acting like we are on holiday, anyway we have been on holiday.  Hardly any of it has been spent on stuff, just on experiences and we’ve never done this before and I am cutting us some slack, AS LONG as we get it under control *grin*.  Budgeting better would be one of the few things I would do differently if we were planning this trip now, I would also check multiple sources for the weather and I would bring a MUCH smaller bag and subsequently many fewer things.

It really has been a lovely two months, JHubz and I are the greatest of travelling companions and don’t really get grumpy with each other very often.  The few times it has happened have been when I’ve woken up particularly perky and been unable to restrain my unbridled enthusiasm for the day until JHubz is awake.  And one time at the airport, JHubz thought I was pushing in a queue and was mortified ahahahaha I’m British for goodness sake, it would be practically impossible for me to push in.

I miss people, I miss having a glass of wine and chewing the fat and laughing in person, JHubz misses the cheese man on Portobello and we both miss Gato, even though he will deny it.  I hope over the next year many of our lovely friends will visit us.  Ma has already been out once and plans to come again and we have Christmas in Bali with the inlaws planned.  We’ve been regularly skyping and facetiming our friends and family and plan to keep doing that even more.  If you are a friend or family member and are thinking ‘erm hello you’ve not done either with me’ CALL ME! remembering we are currently 7 hours ahead which Miss Vic seems to forget on a fairly regular basis and calls at 2am.

Thank you to everyone who was amused when I first mentioned our idea, to everyone who has been there for us along the way, for the supportive words, laughs, words of wisdom and caution, they have all been appreciated.  Not for one moment have I regretted this decision, I don’t know what the future holds or where we will end up.  And right now I do not need to.  We will be ok, and in 6 months or so we will start deciding where we want to end up and what we want to do.  Sometimes dreams really do come true Xx
