crossroads

After an amazing five hundred and seventy seven days exploring South East Asia we are at a crossroads.

Being a diving instructor is certainly not a career move, the pay is awful, the hours long, you have one day off a week – if you are lucky and an awful lot of dive shops want you to work illegally…but the reward? Being in the ocean on an almost daily basis, introducing new divers to the wonders that exist under the surface, living in paradise? Well they more than make up for it don’t they! Which now that I think of it might be why they get away with such poor pay in the first place 😉

We would love to stay in Asia, me working at a dive centre (only fabulous ones need apply) and Jason completing his novel.  But with PADI alone certifying hundreds of new instructors each month competition is fierce for the few good jobs that exist and why should they choose me? Well of course we all know I am awesome, hard working and bring a vast array of experience to the table but conveying that in an email is not always so easy.

Although there is also another teensy tiny spanner in the works, when we left England in 2015 we had no intention of spending all of our money, nor did we have any intention of diving and yet here we are.

I don’t regret a moment of anything we’ve done, we’ve had amazing life changing experiences, we’ve visited mind blowing places, met the most incredible people and holy cow we learnt how to dive! And not only how to dive I became an instructor! So yes if we have to go back to England now to spend time with friends and family and earn some money before we can continue the adventure, well it’s not the worst thing in the world to have to do or like we haven’t had the most magnificent time, because we most certainly have.

We’re currently in Bangkok and I’m spending the few days we have left researching and applying to any great nitrox using dive centres I find and the evenings catching up on Rupauls drag race – what can I say the wifi is great. We’ve accommodation paid up until the eleventh and if I find a job in that time that would be beyond amazing, if not, well we’ll be looking for a flight back to a very happy mama Xx
